DTS and DAVIS have held corporate citizenship at the forefront of our business values since 1985. We work hard to make a significant positive impact on our surrounding communities. From sponsoring programs in our own backyards to supporting international relief efforts, DTS and DAVIS have always been and remain committed to being a socially responsible contributor.
MONSON, MA TORNADO RELIEF
On June 1st, 2011 strong tornadoes ripped through Western Massachusetts leaving behind a trail of damage. Nineteen communities were effected by the tornadoes that stayed on the ground for more than half an hour; killing 4 people and leaving many more are injured. Homes gone, belongings destroyed and all sense of security shaken.
These storms were in our backyard. Many of our DAVIS staff knew people who lived in Western and South Central Mass where most of the devastation occurred. Without delay, the DAVIS employees stepped up knowing we needed to do something to help our neighbors who had been through this extraordinary ordeal. Many of our employees volunteered to physically help with the clean up efforts, others gave donations of items including money, clothes, gas grills, calamine lotion, chainsaw blades, food, and so much more.
Additionally, The DAVIS Companies hosted a barbeque for the first responders, fire fighters, police officers, and town officials of Monson, MA. Monson was one of the towns hardest hit by the tornadoes and their fire, safety and rescue workers put their own personal tragedies on hold to tirelessly look out for others. The cookout was well attended and much appreciated. All volunteers agreed, there was much more that needed to be done and as a company we are committed to providing continued efforts for the Monson community as it rebuilds. Monson and West Springfield were also included in our backpack program this fall.
BACK PACK GIVE BACK
2011 will mark the 5th year of this remarkable program. The Backpack Giveback allows the DAVIS and DTS staff to connect with local families by providing kids, in grades K-5, with backpacks filled with much needed school supplies. The DAVIS Companies and DTS purchase the backpacks and the employees buy the supplies, sort, fill and distribute the packs. This year all of our office locations supported this program and donated a total of 366 backpacks!
SALVATION ARMY ADOPT A FAMILY HOLIDAY PROGRAM
This program is one of the longest supported programs at DAVIS. Supporting families during the holiday season is a cause close to the hearts of all and the DAVIS team. Over the years, DAVIS has supported over 150 families and over 250 children. From providing a holiday meal to gifts for parents and children, necessities and splurges, this program is supported throughout the company. Unfortunately the need never seems to diminish, but the DAVIS team continues to provide a little something extra for others during the holiday season.
SUPPORTING OUR USA TROOPS
Supporting our troops that are here and overseas is another long term DAVIS commitment. There are many avenue of support for this worthy and continuing cause. On two occasions our employees have gathered supplies and food items to contribute to locally organized Support Rallies. One year the DAVI
S team participated in an American Red Cross Blood Drive near our local headquarters. In 2007, the DAVIS team had a more personal mission. Ashley, the daughter of one of our long-term employee’s was deployed to Afghanistan. The DAVIS Team wasted no time banding together and gathering virtually every single item that was on the wish list plus so much more. Nearly 200 pounds of supplies were collected, packaged and shipped to Ashley’s platoon. From sending care packages items to specific platoons, to supporting local food drives DAVIS always rises to the occasion.
CHARITY WALKS AND TEAMS
Many employees at DAVIS are heavily involved in coordinating teams for charity fundraising walks for wide variety of causes. There are two annual walks in particular that have become traditions here at DAVIS. For six years, DAVIS has formed a team to walk and raise money for the PKD Foundation, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for Polycystic Kidney Disease. The Team, Steppin for Stephie, was founded on behalf of the daughter of one of our employee’s who has the disease. Over the years, the team has raised more than $50,000. Another Annual walk is the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Many of our employee’s participate is this enormous event to help find a cure for cancer. Our employees walk for any number of reasons, some very personal. Whatever the individual reason for their efforts, they are
always very successful in raising significant amounts of money. DAVIS also actively supports and sponsors our employees who participate in walks for many other causes and charities such as the Pancreatic Cancer Alliance, Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, Best Buddies, The Special Olympics, and so many more.
HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE RELIEF SUPPORT
This is another example of The DAVIS Companies coming together to support others following a catastrophic event. Upon hearing of this tragic event, President Bob Davis and HR Director Daphne Phalon immediately organized a charitable relief plan for the people of Haiti. Understanding their most pressing need would be for money DAVIS structured a giving program internally. The generosity of the entire DAVIS team was heartwarming. The earthquake occurred during difficult and uncertain economic times for everyone. Times were tight, yet nearly 100% of our staff, reached into their own pockets to give to those in Haiti. DAVIS then matched the employee contributions and sent over $5560 to the Red Cross to administer to desperately needy people of Haiti.
